Karl Johans park

Karl Johans park is a park in Norrköping, founded in 1887 when, through the financial support of Consul John Philipson , Carl Johans square , formerly called Saltängstorget , was converted into a park environment. Since the beginning of the 20th century there has been the well-known cactus plantation .

The park, like the square it replaced, has its name after a statue of Ludwig Schwanthaler , depicting Karl XIV Johan . The statue was created in Munich and resurrected in 1846, initiated by John Swartz, CF Lindberg, CF Tauvon and JA Forsell.

The statue in bronze is made by Schwanthaler in Munich and cast by Ferdinand von Miller the elder . It represents the king, dressed in marshal dress and military cap, with a bare, layered head head. The foundation stone was laid on July 21, 1845 by widow queen Desideria, and the inauguration took place on October 20, 1846 in the presence of Oscar I , Queen Josefina, widow queen desideria and many others. In a long speech to the king, wholesaler Moselius explained the gratitude that led the travelers to the statue. A medal was characterized in memory of the festivities.
